What inspired this painting was a conversation I had with one of my Aunts. She expressed interest in my art but ulitmately is drawn to more afrocentric pieces. As a kid growning up, I was always doodling and making cartoon characters. I saw this as the perfect opportunity to mesh the two ideas to create something colorful like I normally do, whule directly addressing something I’ve been missing in my work. A way of giving back to the community. My community that is. None of these characters are of anyone particular people that I know, but more of a depiction of the variety of what my people can look like.
